The Institute for Atmospheric and Environmental Sciences at the department of geosciences of the Goethe University Frankfurt offers the position of a

Research Assistant (m/f/d)
(PostDoc)
(E 13 TV-G-U)

Your Task

Halogenated hydrocarbons are both ozone depleting substances as well as strong greenhouse gases. Your task will be the measurements of these species in the atmosphere and the interpretation of the observations. The focus will be on samples from Hungary. These will collected and analysed in the frame of a European research project. You will be responsible for the establishment of the sampling and the regular measurements. These measurements will improve the coverage of the available observational network towards Eastern Europe. You will also be involved in continuous observations from our station Taunus Observatory near Frankfurt, which is part of the international AGAGE network. The measurements will then be used within international collaborations to derive regionally resolved emission data. Self-determined research and further qualification (e.g. German “Habilitation”) are also possible and are encouraged.

Your Profile

A degree in natural sciences (e.g. meteorology, physics, chemistry or environmental sciences) and a Ph.D. in one of these fields is necessary. Experience in the measurement of atmospheric trace gases, preferably using GC/MS and in automated data processing is required, as is a good knowledge of the English language in writing and speaking. For non-German speakers the willingness to learn German is expected. We also expect knowledge in the interpretation of atmospheric measurements and programming skills (python, Labview). A knowledge of Linux and GCWerks is preferable but not essential. We offer a flexible and international working environment with flat hierarchy and good individual development opportunities.

The Goethe University is committed to a policy of providing equal employment opportunities for both men and women alike, and therefore encourages particularly women to apply for the position/s offered. Individuals with severe disability will be prioritized in case of equal aptitiude and ability.
